Tuin Releases “Weerlig,” a Powerful Anthem of Healing and Hope

On February 13, after nearly twenty years of struggling with addiction, Tuin began her first sober day. At rehab, she was tasked with digging a 1.5m by 1.5m hole. Weighing just 39kg and owning almost nothing, she recalls, “It felt like I was digging my own grave.” Three-quarters of the way through, she reached a breaking point, collapsed, and prayed—for forgiveness, for salvation, for freedom. That moment became the inspiration for her latest release, “Weerlig,” a song she describes as the sound of her miracle. The chorus captures the essence of her journey: “Deep breath, let it vaporize against the now, Silence the voices you’re enough, Deep breath let it vaporize against today, Get up and run from your grave.” These words are more than metaphors—they are a call to choose life.

Originally, Tuin wrote “Weerlig” for herself. Every morning, she had to confront her reflection and believe in the “giant” inside her—something stronger than her past and failures. In the second verse, she sings, “I write for the black sheep, for the junkie who prays he is free,” dedicating the song to people grappling with addiction. She speaks openly about the shame many women face, remembering nights spent on the street, believing she was too far from God to seek help. Today, she wants to dismantle that lie: nobody has to remain the black sheep. “We all yearn for love,” she says.

One of the most moving moments of “Weerlig” comes in the bridge: “There is a giant when I look up, when I look in he stands still. He is the compass.” For Tuin, the giant symbolizes God, but she leaves it open to interpretation—someone else might see a mentor, parent, or even their own better self. She believes that emotional well-being shapes one’s moral compass; seeing self-hatred distorts your path, but recognizing the giant changes your direction. Tuin also shares her experience with depression and anxiety, noting that she has now been stable for two years and considers her life better than ever.

Musically, “Weerlig” marks a shift. There is no guitar on the track, a deliberate choice that mirrors her softer, lighter, and more peaceful approach. The accompanying music video mirrors the transformation in her life: it begins in a dry hole and ends atop a mountain with greenery and a fiery sunspot, symbolizing a journey from darkness to light. The song is available for streaming and download on Spotify and all major platforms.

Beyond a single release, “Weerlig” is part of a larger mission. Tuin actively supports people entering rehabilitation and hopes the song can inspire young people to understand their worth. She envisions performing it with a high school choir, emphasizing early that everyone is enough. February 13 now represents a day of decision—a new beginning for anyone ready to turn their life around. “Weerlig” is the sound of resilience, a reminder that miracles still happen. Its message is clear: take a deep breath, you are enough, and you can rise.
