Local SA Musicians Angered By The Racist Ad Of H&M Clothing Brand
One of the biggest clothing brand in the world H&M made an advertisement that portrayed black people as Monkeys.
The Ad had a black boy wearing a hoodie that was scripted ‘”coolest monkey in the jungle” as much as some would’ve thought it cool and dope SA celebrities and musicians thought otherwise. Celebrities reacted with rage declaring that they will never use the brand ever again.
This is how local musicians and media personalities such as Somizi,Cassper Nyovest, Kwesta and Reason to name a few reacted to the racial ad from H&M.
H&M posted an apology which was like putting gasoline to the fire that was already burning so much.
Rapper Kwesta also said he planned to burn his H&M clothing “I, unfortunately have some H&M clothing… that I’m burning in the morning,” he wrote on Monday evening.
Somizi also posted a message on Instagram saying that he was never a fan of the brand and advised people to not buy from them.
“I’ve never been a fan of H&M since day one they launched in South Africa. First they never had people of colour in their campaigns, even when they came to Africa. Now this. Let’s show them the power of monkey rand by not buying ish from the,” he said.
Minnie Dlamini was a little more blunt in her response to the advert, simply declaring: “F*ck them actually!”
This Ad is one of many brand’s advertisements that black people have complained about for being racist included Dove.
