Ntsiki Mazwai Expresses Her Views About SA Celebrities
Poet and Afro pop musician Ntsiki Mazwai has expressed her views about South African celebrities, boldly stating that instead of creating meaningful content in their art they are busy playing dress up.
She went on to say that Fans are obsessed with celebrities and their personal lives more than they are about their work. The poet also said that there is a big difference between celebrities and musicians, such as herself, who were not afraid to speak out on social issues.
Ntsiki made a comparison of an artist and celebrity emphasizing that while the others play dress up the others create. “There is a difference between celebrity and art, artists create and celebrities play dress up. (The) difference between artists and celebrities: Lauryn Hill is an artist, Kim K is a celeb,” Ntsiki said on Social Media. The artist expressed her concern of how artists are not given enough respect in a country that is obsessed with celebrities.
Mazwai said last week she will be writing her own book as a way to prove that there is still black excellence in writing and that writing is not for everyone. She said this after the blacklash Bonang’s book received for grammatical errors.
