Distruction Boyz Open Up About Their Newly Released Gqom Album
Qgom stars Distruction Boyz have opened up more about their newly released album which sold a large number of copies in few days of it’s release.
The album is titled Qgom Is The Future and the reception it got is unbelievable, they released just in perfect time when people want to do is dance and get lost to the rhythm and beats of iGgom. The boys expressed how they were blown away by the response the album got. The members of the group Thobane ‘Que’ Mgobozi and Zipho ‘Goldmax’ Mthembu further spoke of the possibilities of reaching Gold and Platinum with this album.
“We have only just released the physical copies of the album so it’s a little too early to tell how far we are from reaching gold but we have no doubt that we are going to go gold and even platinum. People love our music and our digital sales have been amazing. We are number one across the country,” Que said.
The DJs are on top of their game but when they began things weren’t easy for them, people didn’t think that they will pull through especially family and friends.”My parents weren’t too happy about me wanting to do music because they are academics but I did what they wanted from me and finished school and now they don’t mind what I do. It’s not so bad now but we also used to get a lot of questions when we started out, like: ‘who are these guys and what are they doing?’ and ‘what is gqom?’ It was only after we started making music for other artists that things got easier,” he said
They also explained how the Wololo hit was made possible,”We were releasing music and he heard our songs. He gave us a call one random day and was like: ‘hey guys, this is Mampintsha. Please come through to the studio and work on something’. In our arsenal, we have so many beats so it wasn’t too difficult to put a beat over the lyrics. After an hour it was done. We all knew that it would be a big song but no one was expecting it to be that massive,” added Que.
