Top 5 SA Musicians Who Are Now International 2019 – Golden girl Charlize Theron, The comedian Trevor Noah are just three of quite a few international stars with South African roots.

We did a little digging and found 5 other well-known singers who are making big moves globally.

1. Black Coffee

Forty – Three-year-old Durban-born DJ and producer Black Coffee is the first contemporary South African artist who is genuinely developing a crossover audience. He has spent the past five years taking the house music world by storm, playing in Hong Kong, Dubai, Israel, Spain, Croatia, Portugal, France, Greece Amsterdam and the US. 

Hig He has recently been taken on by London-based PR agency Purple, whose clients include Adele, Beyoncé, Calvin Harris, Lana De Rey, and other big names in the business.

2. Euphonik

Themba Nkosi, popularly known as Euphonik has shared his excitement over being nominated among globally established DJs at the 2018 Installment of the DJ Awards.

The DJ, who has recently decided to call himself Themba on stage as well, has bagged a nomination for Best Newcomer DJ. “I’ve been nominated under my new alias Themba, that is super cool,” said the DJ who is clearly happy that his name and brand change has been well received. The international awards, which is considered as the “Oscars” of electronic music is celebrating its 21st birthday this year and has increased the categories as well. This year, they have 13 DJ categories supporting over 160 nominees.

3. DJ Shimza

Shimza is now making global waves with a forthcoming release on Cadenza Records and Knee Deep In Sound. In 2009, he launched his philanthropic One Man Show in Soweto, South Africa to raise funds for underprivileged children.

The event draws in over 25,000 people each year and has featured the likes of Black Coffee, Black Motion and more. Then in 2013, Shimza was signed to Black Coffee’s acclaimed Soulistic Music record label. He went on to release his full length album ‘Shimuzic’, as well as a long list of collaborations and singles such as ‘African Woman’ and ‘Akulawa’.

4. Moonchild

When it comes to international flex, few South African artists can level up with Moonchild. Over the weekend she rocked the stage of Coachella in the US with DJ Diplo and reminded the world why she’s a force to be reckoned with.

Moonchild has been living her best life in the US and when a video of her rocking the Coachella stage went viral, Mzansi was proud of your girl. She performed her hit song iWalki Ye Phara and had the crowd dancing along with her snazzy moves.

5. Culoe De Song

The 28-yeard old from northern KwaZulu-Natal was discovered by Black Coffee and signed to Soulistic Music when he was 17; his mother had to sign the contract. Since then the Afro-house producer and DJ has played at clubs in Australia, Asia, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Croatia and Greece. He has remixed tracks for Boddhi Satva and Vusi Mhlongo and has released tracks on vinyl through cutting-edge German dance music label Innervisions and Japanese label Mule Musiq.
