5 South African Musicians That Have Died In 2017

South Africa has lost a number of musicians since the year 2017 began, most of them die of illnesses while others are involved in car accidents. These deaths live the country, families and friends in great sorrow because they are usually unexpected. Last year a number of public figures passed on, but the way 2017 is going the number might just double. In less than 3 days two musicians have died, it is shocking how sudden it all becomes.

Below is the list of musicians that we have lost in the year of 2017.

Ray Phiri

Legendary Jazz music star Ray Chikapa Phiri died on the 12th of July 2017 after suffering Lung Cancer. He was 70 years old. His funeral was held in his home place, Mpumalanga.

Joe Mafela

Joe was a man of many talents, he was an actor, singer and film producer and director. He became famous for his role in a 90’s sitcom Sgudi Snayis where he played the character of a hilrauous S’dumo. His song Shebeleza became the hit back in the late 90’s. he died in a car accident in Johannesburg at the age of 75 in 18 March 2017.

Tsekeleke – Mixon Tholo

An entertainer that was admired by many, Tsekeleke was one of a kind, he proved to South Africans that being overweight is no disgrace at all. His dance moves put a whole lot of other dancers to shame. He died on the 1st of August 2017. He was suffering from Diabetes, the condition compelled him to go through a variety of amputation surgeries on his right leg. The singer’s hitmaker is a kwaito song titled Fatty Boom Boom.

Dumi Masilela

 

Actor, former soccer player and Musician. Dumi died on the 3rd of August 2017 after suffering gushot wounds from a hijacking ordeal that took place in Tembisa, he died in hospital. The Shona Phansi singer was 29 years old.

Lundi Tyamara

Multi-award winning gospel star Lundi died in hospital after suffering stomach cancer that made him lose a lot of weight. The singer died on the 27th of January 2017. he was  38 years old.
