Cassper Nyovest On Why He Won’t Associate Himself With The SAMAs

Cassper calls SAMAs trash

Cassper Nyovest On Why He Won’t Associate Himself With The SAMAs. Cassper can now be counted as one of SA musicians who feel that the South African Music Awards ceremony held annually operates in a way they feel is unfair towards them as musicians.

During a press conference held in honour of him and the Distruction Boyz receiving BET Nomination, he was asked about his beef with the SAMAs and why he places so much prestige on international awards, Nyovest stated that he had been involved in what has felt like a fruitless and endless back and forth with the awards show that it caused him to lose faith in their credibility.

“I can’t submit to the SAMAs every year when I don’t understand them. Nobody had ever answered us. We keep submitting just to say “ah, F the SAMAs,” but we keep submitting. So, for me, I was like…you know? When I thought about it, I don’t really need the SAMAs you know, they don’t take me anywhere, they don’t expose me to anybody…” said Nyovest. Before adding, right at the end “the SAMAs are trash though!”

Nyovest is nominated in Best International Act category alongside SA’s own, Distruction Boyz as well as acts like Stormzy, Steff London, Davido, Tiwa Savage and Fally Ipupa to say the least.

Speaking on his nomination he expressed how mad he was when he wasn’t nominated last year on BET Awards.

“I’m very honoured to be nominated. I was mad as hell when I wasn’t nominated last year, but we carry on working, and I’m here.” he said.
