Don Laka Is Set To Perform At The Cape Town Jazz Festival – Don Laka is set to perform in Cape Town International Jazz Festival, the Grammy nominee who was born in Mamelodi had the privilege to accept his initial nominee for Best World Music CD, that was for producing Hugh Masekela’s Jabulani in 2013.

The multifaceted artist and instrumentalist also a producer is set to perform on the 30th of March on a Saturday  #CTIJF.

His early work involved prominent households names such as Brenda Fassie, Sipho Mabuse and Sankomo, in this case, he toiled with strings and was a keyboard arranger. He worked with the band “Umoya” to produce his first hit prior to creating an element of British – rock effect of his own. The “Y band” image with Sello “Chico” Twala was created in the 1980s. They were associates for an approximate of 10 years, emancipating multiple albums. And without fail he continued to craft his own solo music ulbum such as Going Crazy (1982,) I wanna be Myself  (1984) and smile (1987). He has had the honour to produce musicians of high calibre; Ray Phiri, Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Johnny Clegg, and Mango Groove.

He has done everything but his focal point in his musical career was associating on Hugh Masekela’s “Black To The Future” – 1998 and also “Sixty” – 2000. He blended his brand new rhythms then into Masekela’s work without extracting Hugh’s distinctive sound. That was his best year because it also gave him recognition in the same year 2013 to be nominated at the South African Music Awards for being the Best Producer. 

His latest work that was produced in 2017; his album titled” reflections, a commemoration of 45 years alive and kicking in the music industry. He attributed Laka fusing his Kwai- Jazz and this time it had an element of a new sound and he worked with Dr Malinga, Kelly Khumalo, Emtee, Dr Maphorisa and Thembe.
