Mama Dorothy Masuka has done her part
Our legendary Jazz singer, the entertainer has left. We heard about the sudden passing of Mama Dorothy Masuka; who died last month on a Saturday, February the 23rd, it was said she was at her residence in Johannesburg. We witnessed on the 1st of March at the Joburg Theatre a second memorial service of the deceased. The support was an incredible and moving gesture. It is beautiful to see a life well lived and celebrated even after death. She came with a purpose and left her footprints on the sands of times.
Prior to becoming a South African; she was born in Zimbabwe and relocated to create herself a home in the soils of South Africa. The platform was open to distinct speakers, recounting and characterizing her as a person who was favoured by many. She is said to have embodied a tender spirit. Her existence was filled with peace and tranquillity, she knew how to mend and draw her family together.
“She put a lot of passion in everything she did, in music, with friends and with family. I don’t know how we will continue as a family but we will have to. She was everything to us,” Mtetwa stated.
You can imagine the musical tribute they gave her, only the best for the pronounced, iconic Jazz star. The list ranges from household names such as Themba Mokoena, whom we love, he says since he missed a funeral of a great friend in the past Oliver Mtukudzi and most of us remember him by his feature with Ringo Madlingozi – “Into Yam”. And Themba Mokoena, known to be a guitarist who without hesitation pronounced how honoured he was for the opportunity to be celebrating the life of a legend even unto death and this time being present.
Mara Louw also shared her tribute, taking us back on how they first met. She states they crossed paths in the 1980s in Zimbabwe.
“I was singing in one club, singing songs of my favourite singers. One of those been Pata Pata and I heard her powerful voice coming from the back. She came onto the stage to sing with me, I was a fan since that day and we became close, “ she added.
Life brings us to places of destiny and we get the privilege to meet people that inspire us and help motivate our lives. These encounters are a perfect example of what destiny looks like and how profitable it is when you are met by the right people.
She was laid to rest yesterday on Sunday at “Joburg’s West Park Cemetery,” after the service at UJ Soweto Campus.
‘’She indeed was a South African patriot who cherished her country and her people dearly. No doubt that she occupied a special place in the hearts of South Africans across generations and her music continues to inspire the nation,’’ the ANC mentioned in their speech.
We are pleased she has rested; they gave her a peaceful, warmhearted send-off, thanks to his Family, Friends and Fans.
