Zakes Bantwini Highlights The Struggle Of People In The Ghetto Who Can’t Afford To Watch The Rugby Game On SABC – It is disheartening to learn that as a country when such big moments are celebrated, not everyone can partake.
According to a spokesperson for the South African Broadcasting Corporation, Vuyo Mthembu, the SABC was unable to reach a sublicense agreement with SuperSport for the television broadcast of the 2019 Rugby World Cup.
She said the cost of the rights fees would not have been commercially viable for the SABC.
This is what she previously had to say: “The public broadcaster endeavours to broadcast sports of national interest, as well as national teams of the respective sporting codes, in fulfilling its public mandate. However, the cost of these particular rights fees would not have been commercially viable and there would not have been a return on investment for the organisation,” she said.
Zakes Bantwini took to social media to share his perspective and concern on the matter, how less privileged individuals were deprived of watching and celebrating their own country during the Rugby World Cup.
