Top 10 Things You Did Not Know About Rethabile Khumalo – Now, almost seven years later, Rethabile Khumalo (24) is determined to let her star shine bright.

And she wants to make it on her own, without the help of her famous mother, afro-pop singer Winnie Khumalo (45).

Since her mother is already in the spotlight, Rethabile has had to work extra hard to prove she’s indeed talented.

  1. SHE first got a taste of the spotlight when she entered Idols SA at age 16 and made it to the top 16. 

2. Rethabile and her brother, Thando (27), were raised by their mother in Protea Glen, Soweto. She admits that having to find her way without relying on her mother to hold her hand has been hard but liberating. 

3. She introduced herself into the in industry with a song titled Nomathemba Nomathe (mother of hope) which she sh wrote herself. It certainly got her noticed.

4. Winnie Khumalo’s daughter Rethabile has signed a record deal with DJ Tira.

5. She is the daughter of musician Winnie Khumalo‚ Rethabile has always been close to the music industry and ma said she was over the moon at what her daughter had accomplished so far.

6. Her breakthrough came on her 22 birthday, Afrotainment announced that they had singed Rethabile Khumalo as one of their artists and that she is set to release her new single on the 28th of September under her new home.

7. Prominently known as Retha, the Soweto musician is a knowledgable dancer, multi-instrumentalist and musician. Her initial track Nomathemba was emancipated through DJ Tira’s Afrotainment

8. Her music career is inspired by the likes of Brenda Fassie and Lebo Mathosa. She feels Those women were original and did not want to be dictated to on how they presented themselves to the world.

9. So, the Idols SA 2012 contestant mentioned her next work of art, an EP including seven songs, is under construction.

10. Rethabile collaborated with DJ Zinhle, Mvzzle on a song titled “Umlilo”. The trio were presented with a plaque in honour of their achievement on Wednesday night at Universal Music Groups’ Night For The Stars award ceremony.
