Prince Kaybee went on social media to tell aspiring DJs that they should not do live sets on television for Free. The small tweet ended up having two educated sides from two leading DJs when Euphonik commented on Prince Kaybee’s tweet. Euphonik went on to remind Prince Kaybee that he was once in a 13 week competition for free.
“You are way too popular and influential to not help other people grow. Why must they not do it,” says Euphonik. The ‘uWrongo’ hitmaker replied by saying, “..The DJ live sets on TV are AFP (advertiser funded programming) sponsors per pay episode, does it make sense to pay for studio, crew, catering, lights, broadcast signal, cameras operators and Not Pay DJ while there are 3 sponsors plus channel budget?” He went on to say that the DJs on the 1s & 2s show knew when they came in the door that its either they get the cash prize or they lose. “It was commissioned by [the] channel with no sponsor and its mandate was not to make money but expose new talent, stop the loose mindset,” says Prince Kaybee.
Euphonik agreed with Prince Kaybee. “I agree with you 100% I know this and so do you but a lot of people who don’t know this must learn how it works. Unknowns also need the platform so teach people what to look out for,” says Euphonik. Prince Kaybee went on to say that the “main creative product and line item in the budget that sponsors are paying for is DJ’ing…” He thus asked if exposure can be payment in the scenario. Euphonik responded by saying that, also on radio, some people don’t get paid for their mixes but they get exposure.
The DJ concluded by saying that for some people exposure is valuable. “We both agree that exposure and brand building is important and young artists shoul invest in it. But can we also agree that if a sponsor budget is available, we try to give them some compensation, no matter how small,” says Prince Kaybee.
