Music producer Prince Kaybee was fired at for advising people to not buy alcohol on Monday, when the lockdown moved to level 3. “Don’t buy the alcohol, we need every cent…,” says Prince Kaybee. Some people thought that the DJ had an ‘urge to sound smart’ like the celebs that he was talking about. The artist replied to the backlash that he got.
“Unbanning alcohol is good for the economy but at the same time it increases chance of infections and alcohol related accidents which means hospitals can get full. Did we think about how this affects the black communities who couldn’t access medical care even before [the] pandemic,” says Prince Kaybee. The DJ went on another tweet to say that he knows that he benefits from the alcohol economy but he wasn’t ‘made’ by alcohol. “I’m fully aware of my benefit from the alcohol economy as a DJ, but to say ‘alcohol made me’ is a reach. I have a right to be concerned about the safety of people that support my music. You can replace profits lost from not selling alcohol but human lives cannot be replaced,” says Prince Kaybee.
Social media users reacted to Prince Kaybee’s message. “That’s very heartwarming to know you’re not faking anything but in fact truly from the bottom of your heart worried about us. You’re a real one,” says one social media user. One user says, “Such maturity is needed in your industry.”
