Sha Sha’s Nationality Dragged Into DJ Maphorisa’s Drama On Twitter
Sha Sha’s Nationality Dragged Into DJ Maphorisa’s Drama On Twitter. Maphorisa went on Twitter to gloat that he was nominated for a South Africa Music Award with singer Sha Sha. The people on Twitter then got their pants in a twist mentioning that Sha Sha is not South African.
DJ Maphorisa and Samthing Soweto’s song ‘Akulaleki’ which features Sha Sha is one of the songs nominated for Record Of The Year at the 2020 SAMA‘s. Maphorisa saw this nomination as a way to get back at Prince Kaybee. The DJ also known as Madumane mentioned how much he does not care for being nominated for over 2 songs and that he is still wondering why other artists are not nominated. He mentioned Sha Sha as an artist that should be individually nominated.
The DJ’s jab then brought out commentary from people on Twitter seeking clarity on the logic of having a Zimbabwean getting nominated for a South African Music Award. Many tweeps said why is Sha Sha, who is Zimbabwean not nominated for Best International Act but is nominated for best song to come out of South Africa.
Maphorisa saw the concept of bringing up Sha Sha’s nationality as irrelevant. Many tweeps defended Sha Sha and stated many other instances where non-South African nationals had been nominated and even won awards in the past. An artist who was mentioned was Tresor who has won a SAMA even after not being South African.
