The virtual award ceremony of the SAMAs began on Monday, the ceremony is a week long. On Tuesday a new list of winners has been announced. The award ceremony is hosted Dineo Lang and Donovan Goliath.
The awards that were being announced on Tuesday are for ‘Best Reggae Album’, ‘Best Afropop Album’, ‘Best Contemporary Faith Music Album’, ‘Best Alternative Music Album’, ‘Best Adult Contemporary Album’, ‘Best African Adult Contemporary Album’, ‘Male Artist Of The Year’ and ‘Best R&B/Soul Album. Samthing Soweto’s ‘Isphithiphthi’ has won the award for ‘Best Afropop Album. Fans of the artist congratulated him for his win, he was also thankful for winning the award.
“Thank you for my [Best Afropop] award. [Now] how do we celebrate,” says Samthing Soweto. The singer also sang a bit of a song from his album. Prince Kaybee received the award for ‘Male Artist Of The Year’. Benjamin Dube won the award for ‘Best Contemporary Faith Music Album’ for his album ‘Glory In His Presence’. The Ndlovu Youth Choir got the award for ‘Best Contemporary Album’ with their recent album ‘Africa’. The choir was also part of the opening of the virtual award ceremony. “What an amazing privilege! We are very honoured to be part ofthis extraordinary virtual event honouring so many amazing musicians” says the choir on the opening ceremony.
