Lebo Mashile Motivates South African Artists Who are Ignored To Not Give Up. South Africa has some of the best musicians.
South Africa has some of the best musicians. However, some of the musicians in the country are being slept on by listeners and at moments by the music industry. Some of the artists that are being ignored are also made fun of based on how long they have been in the music game.
Poet Lebo Mashile came up to motivate the artists not to give up on their careers (or one would say calling). The poet and activist says that hopefully their work will see outlast the norms of time that they have. “South African artists, please don’t define your success based on whether or not this country cares about your work. At the best of times, this country ignores its most precious gems. Hopefully what you create will outlast the norms of time. Being ahead of one’s time hurts,” says Lebo Mashile.
Social media users were on the same side as the poet. One social media user says, “I see a lot of artists not getting the accolades they deserve especially in their own countries, sad but true. Outsiders celebrate you more than your own, they must keep going. The rest will follow…” One user mentioned Moonchild Sanelly. “Example Moonchild Saneli (not sure how to spell that) but she was more popular abroad than here,” says the user. Lebo Mashile named other artists in response to a user who mentioned Stogie T.
