Losing a loved one is quite devastating to a person, it has the power to push someone into a state of depression. Some people can eventually get out of that sadness, while some people will take quite a while or they might not be able to get out of the sadness. Unathi went on social media to speak about how she was called about a sad occurrence in her family.
The musician states that she was called on Sunday morning with the news that the family’s 96-year-old matriarch passed away. “the phone rang this morning and it was confirmation of another death in the family. This time our 96 year old matriarch has gone to her resting place to be with her twin and her daughter whom we buried just over a month ago. My grandmother asked me to read her love letter at the funeral to her daughter, my aunt because she didn’t have it in her to read it herself. COVID has marked this the end of an era in my family as she was the last of her generation, our grandparents. The Head mistress in our family,” says Unathi Nkayi. The musician and Idols SA judge says she wanted to lie in bed all day.
She says that she could feel depression creeping up on her. “…I forced myself to get out of the house and exercise. EXERCISE- The cheapest antidepressant in the world has been part of [my] routine to beat feeling down for too long. The endorphins your body produces just after 30 minutes of walking literally lifts your mood. Very powerful natural drugs that lift you up and keep you going through out the day. This is why I train in the mornings…try it it works,” says Unathi Nkayi.
