Songstress Kelly Khumalo released a hit gospel track featuring Hlengiwe Mhlaba titled ‘Esphambanweni’. The song is from her 2020 album titled ‘The Voice Of Africa’. The track was nominated at the 2020 annual ‘The Crown Gospel Awards’.
The Kelly khumalo song was nominated under the category of ‘Best Gospel Song’. The artist was against artists such as Vusi Nova featuring Dumi Mkokstad with ‘Yibanathi’, Nyathi with ‘Baba Ziveze’ and the Tswhane Gospel Choir with ‘Imvuselelo’. However, the talented vocalist didn’t get the award for her song with gospel star Hlengiwe Mhlaba. The winner of the ‘Best Gospel Song’ award was Nyathi with ‘Baba Ziveze’. She went on social media to let it all out about the award loss.
“Esphambanweni Vs Baba Ziveze? Someone please balance me? I would have been ok with Jehova uzoygcina impilo yami or Bawo Yiba nathi [Christians do not fool with us],” says Kelly Khumalo. The musician’s followers also don’t seem happy with the outcome of the awards. One social media user says, “It didn’t make sense at all. It’s not the first time they do it.” One social media user says, “I need artists to stop participating in CGA honestly. The same thing happened with Sbu Noah last year.”
