South Africans will be getting to experience the first annual KwaZulu-Natal Entertainment Awards. Thanks to BET, channel 129 on DStv, people can get to see what happened on the 15th of December 2020 at the award ceremony that took place at the Durban ICC. The award ceremony will be broadcasted on the 30th of January.
The people that were at the award ceremony got to see great performances from some of the greatest musicians in KwaZulu-Natal. BET Presenter Nomalanga Shozi was hosting the guests on the black carpet. Somizi Mhlongo and BET’s ‘Behind The Story’ host Pearl Thusi hosted the main award show. The award ceremony was created to give praise to those that have taken KZN’s status to bigger heights through their music. The winners of many categories walked away with a lot of money, accompanied with the awards. The stage had some of the biggest stars.
Nasty C, Sjava, Zandie Khumalo, Tira, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Nomcebo Zikode, Babes Wodumo, Lvovo Derrango and Big Nuz were some of the biggest names that performed on the KZN Entertainment Awards stage. “We are excited that the rest of the world will finally watch persons who have put KZN on the international map being honoured,” says Xolani Majozi, chairman of the KwaZulu-Natal Entertainment Awards. In 2020, the awards ceremony received a lot of negative criticism from some people in the entertainment industry.
Hulisani Ravele said that if the money for the awards ceremony was from the government then it is a spit in the face of dilapidated schools and the children who go through hardship to get to school. She ended it by saying that the ceremony is a waste of money. When one social media user asked Kelly Khumalo if they should vote in the category of ‘Best Female Artist’, the musician told the user to not waste money. DJ Sox and DJ Bongz both pulled out their nominations from the awards ceremony.
