Thandiswa Mazwai And Langa Mavuso Explain Why They Did Not Participate In “Cancelling” MacG Following His Transphobic Joke. The two believe the public misinterpreted their tweets or rather the main point in defending the LGBTQI+ community after Podcast and Chill host DJ MacG caused a stir on social media after the “transphobic comments” he made on his YouTube show. Thandiswa and Langa explain that they did not participate in cancelling anyone or their business, as they focus on addressing issues that affect the LGBTQI+ community.
Thandiswa expressed her disappointment in Mac G and how he’s negatively used his platform. “Dear straight person. Don’t talk about us (queer people) on public platforms without us being present to speak for ourselves. There is a lot you don’t know or understand so it’s best to seek education rather than talk from ignorance. #TransLivesMatter,” tweeted Thandiswa.
A news site seem to have gotten Thandiswa’s point wrong as she continues to defend herself. “This is not true. I don’t believe in cancel culture. I think there are times when repercussions must happen but I believe not in calling out but calling in. It’s my individual way. What I said was a psa to say these conversations must happen with us in the room&that learning is NB.”
On the other side, singer Langa tweeted: “transphobia and homophobia is violence. the lives of trans people matter. when platforms like MACG’s podcast invalidate their existence with ‘jokes’ & derogatory terms many intolerant people feel comfortable to violate & endanger those lives too. it is dangerous & intolerable.”
Langa also added on that with a comment written: “none of our tweets called for a canceling of anyone or their business. it’s important to address serious issues that affect us and many who are disenfranchised. this is sensationalism at it’s best.”
