South African Music Week 2021 Inauguration Themed ‘Music In The 4IR’
South African Music Week 2021 Inauguration Themed ‘Music in the 4IR’. The South African entertainment industry took another spin as it just introduced a new annual cross-border collaborative event themed ‘Music in the 4IR’. The 2021 South African Music Week (SAMW) inauguration took place on January 26 – 28 and the event took place online organised in partnership with the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture.
The live-streamed online event started with a press conference where Neill Dixon, the president of Canadian Music Week (CMW), pledged his ongoing support and commitment to helping Michael Moeti, CEO of SAMW, to grow the event into a powerhouse.
The highlight of the event was the launch of the South African Music Access Guide, a document that provides industry insight and contacts for international producers and companies to source and promote local talent. The line-up included performances by Automatic, Sean Trimz, Mahlathini, and Afronaut among many more local artists.
Founder and CEO of SAMW, Michael Moeti, said: “We are excited to write a new chapter for the South African music industry by bringing the world to our doorstep, using the digital age to unearth emerging talent and plugging it into a global audience. Thanks to the phenomenal inspiring success of Master KG’s Jerusalema, South African talent is being recognised globally. SAMW is the ideal platform to build a robust cross-border music industry based on collaboration and making the most of music in the 4IR.”
“This is what SAMW is all about – finding those opportunities and addressing what needs to happen to ensure our people can be part of the digital music economy.” Moeti also mentioned the issue of expensive data, saying that the music industry, government and the private sector needed to work together to bring down the costs of data so 4IR can thrive.
