Thandiswa Mazwai Calls On Minister Nathi Mthwethwa To Assist Musicians Amid COVID-19
Thandiswa Mazwai Calls On Minister Nathi Mthwethwa To Assist Musicians Amid COVID-19. This comes after large gatherings such as as events were banned due to covid-19 and in order to curb the spread of the virus, leaving performers stranded with no other means of making money. However, with that being said, relief funds were made available for those negatively impacted by the pandemic, but musicians were excluded.
Thandiswa Mazwai took to social media to address issues that musicians are facing amid the restrictions of the pandemic, she wrote: “Artists(eg musicians) livelihoods have been shut down completely for the past 12 months. And it looks like another 12 months before anyone will or can go to a gig. That means artists have no money and many people are losing everything they have worked years to build.”
She went further to express the fact that the government has been quiet regarding relief for musicians, and so took it upon social media users to come up with ideas on how musicians can survive. “Asking them is like asking a hungry lion the way for directions. would love to see what lucrative ideas musicians have come up with. Cos wow online gigs can be a snooze. Give us the ideas fam. Cos everything costs money and with no revenue coming Issa mess.,” wrote Thandiswa.
