Berita Shares Her Relief After Paying Off A 6 Year Debt
Berita Shares Her Relief After Paying Off A 6 Year Debt. In 2019, Universities South Africa (USAf), an association of universities, told the parliamentary portfolio committee on higher education that, if the debt is scrapped, it would cause the collapse of universities. This comes after the public queried if whether student debt would be scrapped off after a maximum of five years, meaning that students will still have to pay off their varsity debts.
Berita, real name Gugulethu Khumalo, made it clear that she’s not the kind to share such information about herself to the public, but she had to. Revealing that she has paid off her university debt after 6 years. Berita claims she’s beginning to get intentional on doing the right things. She also mentioned that she has prioritised her projects for all these years and forgotten to take care of the basics, such as choosing financial freedom.
Sharing a lengthy message on Instagram about her financial freedom and decisions, Berita wrote: “To something special happened yesterday and I decided I was going to share it. It might be random to share this as I have never shared much in this light until now. Yesterday I paid off my university debt after 6 years. See all these years I have prioritised my projects and forgotten to take care of the basics. As an independent artist a lot falls on my shoulder it’s called sacrifice! But 2021 is the year things change, I’ve decided to intentionally get out of debt for good! Today I choose financial freedom, happy #chooseday to you.”
In 2012, Berita moved to South Africa to pursue her tertiary studies at Walter Sisulu University in the Eastern Cape Province. This is when she began performing and recording music. She is now celebrated for her music and as well as having collaborated with world-renowned artists including the likes of Yvonne Chaka Chaka, iconic House DJ Oskido, the late industry giants Oliver Mtukudzi as well as, Grammy award-winning Hugh Masekela.
