DJ Tira Speaks On Channel O’s – The Formula – “Discipline Is Important In This Game You Gotta Be Disciplined” – Mthokozisi Khathi, prominently known by DJ Tira, is our treasured South African, Durban house DJ.

Our Mzansi DJ, record producer and founder of a record label titled Afrotainment has been around for a long time.

He has been responsible for producing thousands of artists in his active years. He has been securing the bag for a long time now. They announced him as the brand ambassador for an alcohol beverage  Hunters Extreme.

DJ Tira took to social media to share visuals of himself interviewed by the channel O show “The Formular,” he talks concerning his music, where he comes from, who inspires him and how his record label was established.

Discipline is one thing that is important in this game you gotta be disciplined man because – ama – temptations sbali yhoo, left right and centre. Especially E Jozi. I – Jozi- izokuvithisa.

Foundation – “I think I find a lot of joy in seeing young people successful, there is a lot of talent that we have in South Africa and they always suffer because it is hard to make it.”

“For me, I think God brought me into this world to help people”

Inspiration“I think I was very inspired by, you know the likes of Christos, the likes of Oskido, those were the guys that were rocking, I think I am talking about the 1996 – 1997- Those are the guys that went at the forefront of the game.” So, I also saw myself as a young Oskido, a young DJ Fresh, a young Glen Lewis doing my thing and then I started, in fact, working with them whenever they want to launch a CD, Party in Durban, obviously with my sound system I started being known.

We were getting paid R500, you now but it was worth it, I had to pay the rent at the end of the month you know. I had to know how to budget and to save money. But then my career kicked off 1999 – 2000 when I won the Smirnoff DJ Competition in Johannesburg Electric workshop.

Finding the cap: I think after winning the competition obviously people expected me to move to Joburg, Joburg was happening but I just saw a need to maybe stay in Durban and make this City called Durban happen.

Birth of an Era: There was only one movement that was happening, which he was also raised under rap 2000. He saw a niche, a need for youngsters to come and take over the music scene. and that’s how Durban Finest was introduced, bigger parties were introduced in Durban because of that.

When DJ Tira observed that, in as much as, they are hosting parties, they lack artist who can record their own songs, Afrotainment was then born in an attempt to fulfil a need. A record label that was formulated to sign artists in Durban and not require them to relocate to Johannesburg.
