Xolly Mncwango Emerges Victorious at Metro FM Music Awards with Two Major Wins

South African gospel artist Xolly Mncwango was among the standout winners at the 2025 Metro FM Music Awards, walking away with top honours in the Best Female Artist and Best Gospel Album categories. The recognition marks a significant milestone in her career, underscoring her influence and impact in the gospel music scene.

Mncwango, widely celebrated for her powerful tracks such as Ungukuphila and Healing Power, expressed deep gratitude for the unexpected accolades. Speaking to Sowetan, she admitted she hadn’t anticipated the win and had not even prepared a speech.

“I didn’t see this one coming,” she shared. “If I wasn’t performing, I wouldn’t have gone to the awards. I still don’t have the right words, but I’m grateful. I feel seen and validated by the industry.”

She described the experience as a testament to the dignity found in consistent, faithful work, even when unnoticed.

“These awards prove there’s dignity in labour. Sometimes, you work in your little corner, unaware that the world is watching. The grace of God is truly unexplainable.”

Gospel Music as a Calling

In discussing her role as a gospel artist in 2025, Mncwango reflected on the responsibility that comes with being both a public figure and a person of faith. As a young Christian woman in the industry, she highlighted the importance of mindfulness and integrity.

“One of the things I’ve learned is that you have to be careful with your words. Even when you feel the urge to respond, you need to think twice.”

Despite the pressures, she noted a positive shift in the perception of gospel music.

“It’s refreshing to see gospel being appreciated in its pure form, without gimmicks. People are starting to see gospel artists as real individuals who also experience the highs and lows of life.”

A Human Approach to Ministry

Mncwango shared that fans are increasingly embracing gospel singers as relatable and human. According to her, there’s a growing openness and understanding from the public.

“There’s no longer a taboo around seeing gospel artists outside of church settings. People realise that we’re all navigating life. We’re not perfect, and that’s okay.”

She added that this shift has helped artists maintain authenticity and avoid the pressure of portraying unattainable perfection.

Embracing Challenges and Success

When asked about her approach to failure, Mncwango offered a perspective rooted in faith and resilience.

“Success and failure are two sides of the same coin. You choose your path — either tackle the challenges that come with success or carry the burden of failure. I choose to be grateful for my journey.”

She emphasised that faith remains her compass, stating, “The all-time finisher of our journey is God. The best thing we can do is wait on Him to fulfil His promises.”

A Legacy for Her Son

Among her most heartfelt motivations is her son, whom she credits as the driving force behind her dedication and perseverance.

“He’s the one who keeps me going. I want to leave him a legacy that shows the value of hard work, passion, and persistence. That’s the kind of impact I want to have on his life.”

A New Chapter Begins

Despite having spent nearly 15 years in the music industry, Mncwango said this moment feels like a fresh beginning. She is currently preparing for new music releases and an exclusive two-day tour in Durban.

“It feels like the start of a new era for me. I’m excited about what’s to come and thrilled about growing the Xolly brand.”

With her faith, voice, and purpose intact, Xolly Mncwango continues to inspire through music — proving that gospel remains a powerful and evolving force in the South African music landscape.
