Mpumi Mzobe Drops Soulful Afro House EP “Iculo Lami” Celebrating Women and Healing

South African Afro House singer Nompumelelo “Mpumi” Mzobe has released a new EP titled “Iculo Lami,” a five-track project centred on celebrating and uplifting women. The EP highlights Mpumi’s signature soulful sound while delivering messages of healing, hope, and spiritual reflection.

“Iculo Lami” features collaborations with one of South Africa’s most respected musicians, Professor, with whom Mpumi has worked on multiple songs since her 2013 debut. The EP further showcases her range and influence in the Afro House scene, following her features on hit tracks like “Somandla,” “Busa” with Euphonik, “Umoya” with Heavy-K and Professor, and “Wena” with Heavy-K.

In an interview with Independent Media Lifestyle, Mpumi shared that the inspiration behind the EP comes from a deeply spiritual and positive place. “I sit back and I think that this is what has been deposited in my spirit, you know, because I like music from a very spiritual and a very deep place. And I named the project ‘Iculo Lami’ because of the messages that I have been given to release musically,” she explained.

Mpumi emphasised the healing intent behind her songs. “I always want to write positive music. I want to write music for people who basically want to be healed. When someone listens, they get some sense of relief, healing, hope, inspiration, and sometimes a celebration of love.”

Faith and spirituality are central to her music. Many tracks involve praising God, praying, or seeking clarity in life situations. She also ensures her songs remain relatable, giving listeners guidance, motivation, and reassurance. “There are a lot of people who seek the messages that I write about, who seek healing and motivation. When they listen, they feel ‘I’m not alone,’” Mpumi said.

Her personal journey has heavily influenced her music. “I write from experience. I write from just watching situations that don’t even happen to me, but they happen to the people close to me,” she shared.

On collaborating with Professor, Mpumi noted, “He’s my best buddy and my brother. When I came into the industry in 2013, he embraced me with so much love.” Their creative synergy is evident on “Iculo Lami,” enhancing the EP’s depth and authenticity.

Looking ahead, Mpumi revealed plans to explore the trending 3-step sound. “I’m really intrigued by the three-step sound. There are exciting kids on the block that I want to collaborate with. We’ve had some talks, and I’m entertaining the idea of getting into the studio to work on a few singles with some of the young ones,” she said.

With “Iculo Lami,” Mpumi Mzobe continues to establish herself as a voice of empowerment and healing in South Africa’s Afro House landscape, blending soulful rhythms, spiritual messaging, and relatable storytelling.
