Professor Returns with New Single “Order,” Blending Kwaito, Amapiano and 3 Step

Veteran kwaito hitmaker Professor has officially returned to the music scene with a fresh and evolved sound. Known for chart-topping classics such as “Jezebel,” “Imoto,” and “Fingerprints,” the 47-year-old artist is reminding fans that he is far from done. His latest single, “Order,” marks both a musical and personal rebirth, fusing his kwaito roots with the energy of amapiano and 3 Step.
“Order” celebrates Professor’s growth and longevity in the industry. The track captures his familiar lyrical flair while introducing new sonic textures inspired by today’s urban sounds. Professor, born Mthokozisi Langa, said the song came from a desire to reconnect with his origins while embracing South Africa’s evolving musical landscape.
“I felt like I’ve been missing for a while, so I revisited my biggest project, University of Kalawa Jazmee, and decided to mix that energy with the current amapiano and 3 Step vibes,” he said.
The inspiration behind the project was sparked through collaboration with his new in-house producer, Larny, who introduced gqom and amapiano elements that reignited Professor’s creative spark.
“With Larny’s beats, it became easier for me to rhyme and flow again. He kept pushing me until I found the right sound. I’m a producer myself, but this time I stepped back and let the young blood do what he does best,” he said.
The Lento hitmaker also reflected on his personal and spiritual growth, describing his comeback as more than a musical return.
“I’m in a good place spiritually. Jesus is my king and saviour, and I believe everything is happening at the right time. This is not just a return. It’s a new beginning,” he said.
Professor rose to fame under Kalawa Jazmee Records, where he helped define the kwaito era alongside legends such as Oskido and Speedy. Over the past two decades, his music has shaped South African pop culture, influencing both established and emerging artists.
With “Order,” Professor is bridging generations, blending nostalgia with innovation. The single reintroduces him as a seasoned artist who continues to evolve while staying true to his sound.
“Professor is back, and this time, I’m here to stay. I’m back to dreaming, asking, ‘Can God?’ and daydreaming, because my journey is the perfect journey. I’m not perfect, but venturing into this path was the best decision I’ve ever made in my life,” he said.
For fans who grew up with his music, “Order” serves as a reminder that legends never fade. They adapt, inspire, and redefine the rhythm of time.
