Arthur Mafokate Sues Ex-Girlfriend Cici Thwala for R1,5 Million

Kwaito legend Arthur Mafokate, 56, has filed a new lawsuit against his ex-girlfriend, singer and actress Busisiwe “Cici” Thwala, 38, in the Joburg High Court. Arthur is demanding R1,5 million, citing harassment, loss of income, and false accusations of attempted murder.

The dispute stems from a nine-year-old incident when Cici pressed charges against Arthur for assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm. The altercation led to Cici being admitted to a private hospital for a hip operation. Arthur was acquitted in 2019 by the Midrand Magistrates Court after a widely publicised trial.

Despite the acquittal, Arthur claims that in September 2025, Cici used Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok to accuse him of assault and attempted murder. He alleges she shared X-ray images of screws used in her surgery, implying he was violent and abusive. Arthur stated that these actions damaged his reputation, caused humiliation, emotional distress, and loss of business opportunities.

Arthur’s legal team sent Cici a letter demanding she remove all defamatory content, issue a public apology, and provide a written undertaking not to repeat the conduct. According to the lawsuit, Cici refused to comply. Arthur maintains that her actions were false, malicious, and baseless, given that he was cleared of all charges.

This lawsuit follows a previous case in which Arthur sought royalties from Cici for her songs. Cici’s manager, Sannah Thwala, directed inquiries to her lawyer, Keegan Elliot, who had not responded by the time of publication.

The case adds to Arthur Mafokate’s growing legal portfolio, highlighting ongoing disputes between the Kwaito icon and his former partner.
