Cape Town Jazz Festival and Texx and the City Launch Free Masterclass for Local Musicians

Cape Town’s jazz scene has grown into more than just a musical movement; it has become a platform for cultural expression and career development. In a bid to support local talent, the Cape Town International Jazz Festival (CTIJF) and Texx and the City are offering musicians tools to turn their art into sustainable careers.

On 24 January 2026, Soundcast Studios will host a free masterclass led by Tecla Ciolfi, the founder of Texx and the City. Ciolfi, a cultural strategist and music industry expert, has over a decade of experience helping South African and African artists navigate international showcases, funding opportunities, and strategic partnerships.

The session, titled “From Funding to Partnerships: How to Thrive as a Jazz Musician”, will provide practical guidance for artists looking to manage the business side of their careers. Attendees will learn how to secure grants, establish collaborations, and position themselves professionally in a rapidly evolving industry.

“South Africa’s jazz scene is globally respected, but structural hurdles still exist for many artists,” said Ciolfi. “This workshop is designed to give musicians the tools to thrive locally and internationally.”

Participants can expect:

  • Guidance on funding applications and financial sustainability
  • Insight into building partnerships with brands, festivals, and institutions
  • Strategies for professional positioning within the music industry
  • Lessons from Tecla Ciolfi’s extensive experience supporting artists

The masterclass will take place on Saturday, 24 January 2026, at Soundcast Studios. Attendance is free, but prior registration is required.

This initiative forms part of CTIJF and Texx and the City’s wider mission to empower musicians, nurture talent, and create a transparent and accessible music ecosystem in South Africa. The masterclass offers a unique opportunity for jazz artists to gain actionable knowledge and advance their careers while contributing to the growth of the local music industry.
