Shwi Nomtekhala Confirm Long-Awaited Musical Reunion

Legendary maskandi duo Shwi Nomtekhala have finally confirmed they will work together again, answering years of fan requests. The duo, best known for their hit Ngafa, had a bitter split in 2022 after collaborating for 22 years. In 2004, they made history by selling over 750,000 physical copies and winning multiple top awards.
Following their separation, fans repeatedly called for a reunion, but both artists focused on their solo careers. On Sunday, 18 January, Shwi, whose real name is Mandla Xaba, announced on his Facebook page that they will release new music together this year. The announcement sparked excitement across social media, with fans celebrating the return of the maskandi legends.
Daily Sun confirmed the reunion with both artists. Shwi stated, “For now, I will not give more details. Please call me at another time, then I will give you the full details.” Zwelenduna Magubane, known as Mtekhala, also confirmed the collaboration but noted he is currently dealing with a bereavement.
The reunion follows a surprise performance at Mahlathi Park in Vosloorus during the Mtekhala album launch, where the duo confirmed they are no longer enemies but brothers. That performance intensified fan demand for new collaborative music, culminating in this official confirmation.
Shwi Nomtekhala’s reunion promises a new chapter in South African maskandi music, bridging their historic legacy with fresh creative output that fans have long anticipated.
