Sandile Dlamini Returns to Music with Debut Album

Actor and musician Sandile Dlamini is returning to his first passion as he works on his debut album. The 60-year-old former Imbewu: The Seed star has stepped back into the studio to create music that reflects his journey and artistic vision. Dlamini, known for his roles in Imbewu: The Seed and Sibongile & The Dlamini’s, decided to refocus on music after both shows were cancelled. He has built a career balancing acting, music, and business ventures, including a company that provides sound, stage, and lighting services. Now, he aims to give music lovers a project that fully represents him.

Sandile’s music career began in 1976 when he started playing piano at his father’s church. Over the years, he expanded into singing, bass guitar, and performing with various bands. He later moved to Johannesburg and joined multiple groups, exploring afro-fusion and jazz elements in his work. Dlamini has collaborated with numerous artists, including Celebration, Tandy, Mafo, Theo, Malini, and Julie Masa. His experience also includes international tours with productions like Sarafina, performing across Europe and Asia. These experiences shaped his musicianship and inspired the fusion sound he now brings to his own music.

After transitioning into acting in 2018, Sandile embraced new challenges on screen. He describes his first acting experiences as tough but rewarding, drawing on personal and community experiences to connect with his characters. While he enjoyed his roles on Imbewu and other productions, he acknowledges the realities of television, including show cancellations and the need for new content. Despite these challenges, Dlamini valued working alongside young and experienced actors, which enriched his creative perspective.

Currently, Sandile is fully focused on his music career. His upcoming debut album is described as world music with a strong jazz foundation and African fusion elements. He has already released two singles, “High Five” and “Ta Inala,” and plans to release more singles before unveiling the full album. Dlamini plays bass guitar and provides lead vocals on select tracks, blending instrumental expertise with vocal expression. His music reflects decades of experience, aiming to offer listeners a blend of creativity, technical skill, and heartfelt performance.

Fans can expect more from Sandile both in music and on screen. He is involved in multiple productions, including short films and feature projects, some of which will appear on Netflix. His dual focus on music and acting demonstrates his versatility as a creative professional. By returning to his musical roots, Dlamini seeks to share a body of work that is personal, engaging, and globally inspired. The debut album marks a new chapter in his career, promising a unique sound for both longtime fans and new audiences.
