Sjava Completes the Inkanyezi Trilogy with ‘iNkanyezi NeZinkanyezi’

Multi-award-winning South African artist Sjava has brought his ambitious year-long musical vision to a triumphant close with the release of iNkanyezi NeZinkanyezi, the final chapter of his groundbreaking Inkanyezi Trilogy. Following the widely praised live EPs Inkanyezi and Inkanyezi 2.0 released in 2025, this full studio album arrives as a culmination rather than a beginning, building on a journey fans have already experienced, sung along to, and shaped.
Translating to “A Star Amongst the Stars,” iNkanyezi NeZinkanyezi marks a personal milestone for Sjava. The album pays tribute to the constellation of talent surrounding him, including collaborators, producers, and fans. Each track emphasizes the idea that a star shines brightest when it shares its light. Collective creativity drives the project, positioning Sjava not as a solitary figure, but as a central force within a galaxy of artistic brilliance.
Sjava invited audiences into the music-making process from the start. While the live EPs introduced fans to the songs in their raw, electrifying form, most of the album was written and recorded in the studio before these performances. By touring the album before its release, Sjava flipped the traditional album-tour cycle, turning a year-long rollout into an immersive experience. Fans became an active part of the music, their voices captured in live recordings and their energy infused into the album. Each track feels like a meeting point of worlds, guided by Sjava but illuminated by the talent and input around him.
iNkanyezi NeZinkanyezi features an impressive roster of collaborators, reflecting the diversity of South Africa’s music scene. Amapiano star Nkosazana Daughter appears on “Sleepover,” Buhlebendalo contributes ethereal vocals on “Sanibonani,” and Msaki joins Zadok on “Mdumise.” Other notable collaborations include Anatii on “Amashidi Amhlophe,” Jesse Clegg on “Kuye,” Shwi on “Gusheshe,” and The Qwellers’ Lowfeye and Lacabra on “Madibuseng.” Additional features from Siya Ntuli, Ntando Dlamini, Gusba, J John, Ronaldo, Zamoh, and Mafakhiza further expand the album’s sonic landscape, each adding unique texture and depth.
Production on the album reunites Sjava with longtime collaborator Ruff and a circle of talented producers, including Vuyo Manyike, Kelvin Momo, Zadok, Dogzin, Soja, Young2unn, Selani, Anatii, Surprise Ndimande, Lesedi, Herc Cut The Lights, and Gavanna. Together, they create a soundscape that blends tradition with experimentation, intimacy with expansiveness, and innovation with cultural roots.
Reflecting on the project, Sjava explained, “What makes this project special is the way we rolled it out. I wanted to try a different approach, one that allowed me to engage my fans more intimately than before, so I thought, ‘let me teach them the songs before I release them.’ The fans were able to learn the songs, hear their voices on the live EPs and fall in love with the songs before the album actually dropped. The project is bigger than just me. The people who worked on it really give it that unique and special creativity.”
iNkanyezi NeZinkanyezi completes a living, breathing artistic cycle that redefines how music can be shared, experienced, and owned by a community. The album celebrates collaboration, vision, and patience, standing as a testament to the power of collective creativity. Sjava shines as a star surrounded by others, producing a sky of music that is unforgettable.
This release not only closes the Inkanyezi Trilogy but also sets a new standard for immersive, fan-driven musical projects in South Africa.
