Many South African musicians have been accused of sexual offences in recent times and with more and more women speaking out, perpetrators are accounting for their actions. Some have even served time for their offences locally and overseas. Locally Kwaito star Brickz is serving 15 years behind bars for raping a minor.
1.Okmalumkoolkat
OkMalumkoolkat received a six-month jail (five months suspended) sentence in Hobart, Tasmania in January 2016 for indecently touching a female colleague in a Hobart hotel room while attending the 2016 MONA FOMA festival. He returned drunk to the Old Woolstore Hotel in Hobart and was unable to find his room, following which he entered a female artists hotel room and indecently assaulted her. Zwane’s lawyers requested a fine instead of jail sentence but were knockedback as Zwane was scheduled to leave Australia the next day and the fine could not be enforced once he was overseas.

2.Brickz
Brickz is a popular South African artist well known for songs like “Sweety my baby” . The musician was sentenced to 15 years behind bars at the Roodepoort Magistrate for raping a then 16-year-old at his home in Ruimsig, west of Johannesburg.

3.R Kelly
On February 22, 2019, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office charged R Kelly with 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. The charges allege that from 1998 to 2010, Kelly sexually abused four females, three of whom were teenaged minors at the time. Kelly turned himself in the day the charges were announced. The judge set a $1 million bond, and ordered Kelly to have no contact with any minor or alleged victim.
