Watch! Simmy’s Incredible Live Performance For “Umahlalela” – The Tugela Ferry-born house vocalist Simmy hit it big this year with house bangers, Ubala and Sonini featuring Sun-EL Musician, umahlalela.
House producer Sun-EL has been a consistently playing huge role in Simmy’s music career, having scouted and subsequently signed her to his label EL World Music. Prior to the success, they began collaborating, she previously attempted at music competition shows Idols SA and SA’s Got Talent to no success.
Her sound borrows from a mixture of maskandi, country music, neo-soul and electro house music. She looks up to Letta Mbulu and Dolly Parton as inspirations.
She has a desire to collaborate with Sjava and Thandiswa Mazwai.
“The reception of the album has been beautiful. I have realised that there is a song for everyone on the album,” she says. “People are just choosing their favourites, from people who like slow jams and soulful music to those who like to dance.”
