The South African National Editors Forum recently asked that Somizi Mhlongo-Motaung issue an apology to a City Press journalist and an acting editor of Sunday World. The two journalists asked Somizi for a comment on two different stories. However, the response from Somizi was not quite good to say the least.
Simphiwe Dana commented on Somizi’s reaction towards City Press journalist. “I don’t think Somizi is wrong. There are boundaries. Respect them. Us being public figures doesn’t create grounds for [you to disrespect us]. Otherwise write your story [don’t involve us],” says Simphiwe Dana. When a social media user showed her a comment towards the Sunday World acting editor she said that it was out of line. “I didn’t see this one. And it’s completely out of line. It would be good to know what led to it,” says the musician. Some of the comments were against Simphiwe Dana’s original tweet.
The Mzansi Magic Idols South Africa judge is said to done things that are deemed as inappropriate towards the City Press journalist Julia Madibogo and acting editor of Sunday World Kabelo Khumalo. Kabelo Khumalo wanted a comment from Somizi after the controversial rumour of ‘Dinner At Somizi’ being suspended due to allegations of the show’s concept being stolen from Hasting Moengs. Julia Madibogo wanted a comment from Somizi about the rumours of him and Mohale Motaung-Mhlongo getting divorced.
The media personality posted the conversation between him and the City Press journalist. “So [City Press] has become a tabloid…two can play the game…to stand a chance to win I don’t know what dial the number and let Julia know what it feels like to have [your] privacy invaded unprovoked,” says Somizi in a caption on Instagram. When Kabelo Khumalo asked him about the developments on the show, the media personality said some vulgar words.
