Simphiwe Dana Ready To Fight Her Record Label, Universal Music Group

Simphiwe Dana Ready To Fight Her Record Label, Universal Music Group! If you’re a fan of the soulful singer and songwriter, you would know that her latest album, Bamako, was released last year in April. And now following some of her recent tweets, you will see that she is preparing to go under fire with her record label.

Bamako got plenty upon its arrival so much so that the track Masibambaneni has made it to the singers top 5 popular pick on Spotify. She starts off her rant with a tweet explaining that she tried to given the label a choice but it has led here into hot water nonetheless. Soon after, she reveals that she feels artists have been exploited for so long and that she is enough. It is evident that she is enraged, to say the least.

She further elaborates in another tweet that the label wants her previous albums because they failed to market the latest one, Bamako. Dana also claims that she even gave them basis of how to market the album and they still failed to see it through. One of her fans pointed out a compelling theory behind the issue:

The Ndiredi hit maker later points out that she is outraged by the fact that black people are behind the scuffle she is in. Soon after pointing out that this will be rough ride because the very people are well-connected, she goes as far as naming and shaming the director of urban music of the record label.

In this day and age, the exploitation of artists is still such a baffling occurrence considering the fact that record labels need artists, not the other way around. Moreover, this also explains why a handful of independent artists are praised when they are deemed successful in the music business; there is no loop hole ready to come back and bite you.

Although the details are still unclear at this time, her being coined as “the new Miriam Makeba” and “a national treasure” is all the reason we need to stand behind her and hope for best.
