Zahara Expresses Her Disappointment Over Eastern Cape Artists Being Sidelined In Their Own Hometown
Zahara expresses her disappointment over Eastern Cape artists being sidelined in their own hometown. Afro soul singer and songwriter Zahara shared her concern regarding people not booking and supporting their own people.
Zahara took to social media to share the shock she got when she checked an event’s line up she was booked for in the Eastern Cape and learned that no local artists were booked. She shared that promoters must support and book local artists from the province first before inviting other artists from other provinces. She further added that there is so much talent in the province that needs to be recognized.
“There’s an event happening in East London soon. When I check the line up, I notice that Eastern Cape artists are always sidelined when an event is at home. Kanti when will we support our own artists? How can you have an event Emonti or Eastern Cape but promoters book artists from other provinces while people who are born here are not there”. She further added, “When will we start supporting our own? The Province is rich with talent but they’re not booked in Eastern Cape .. Support your own”, Zahara tweeted.
People on social media had mixed reactions to the post. People reminded her that she also performs in other provinces whilst some agreed to her sentiment. “We are in need of a revolutionary artists like you Bulelwa to keep the fight going, thank you. Maybe even those who never paid attention, who are in the industry will look and ask about such. Ask who’s opening for you and where they’re from, check them on social media etc”, said one of her followers.
