Apple Music Launches First-Ever Isgubhu DJ Mix Series with Da Capo Leading the Movement

Apple Music has officially launched its groundbreaking Isgubhu DJ Mix series, a landmark move in celebrating and elevating African dance and electronic music to a global audience. With this initiative, Apple Music reinforces its commitment to showcasing Africa’s rich and diverse sonic landscape, and the choice of legendary South African DJ and producer Da Capo as the debut artist is nothing short of iconic.
As the first-ever cover star of the Isgubhu DJ Mix series, Da Capo brings a wealth of experience, influence, and emotional depth to the table. Known worldwide for his Afro-House sound that blends rhythm with soul, Da Capo has long been considered one of the most vital voices in the genre. Speaking to Apple Music, he reflected on his artistic journey, saying, “My sound has evolved so much over the past decade, and I love being able to express that journey through my sets. I’m always drawn to emotion and storytelling in sound. I love the way music can create space for connection.”
Born Nicodimas Sekheta Mogashoa in Seshego, Limpopo, Da Capo is a self-taught producer who broke into the industry with a major record deal at just 20 years old. His breakout EP Touched under Black Coffee’s Soulistic Music label included the hit single Speed of Sound featuring Tresor, which catapulted him to international recognition and paved the way for his signature style—deep, melodic, and spiritually resonant.
Now, ten years into a remarkable career, Da Capo unveils Indigo Child II: Love & Frequency, a project that captures his artistic growth and inner evolution. He describes the new mix as “spiritual, high-vibrational, and rooted in everything that’s shaped me, both personally and creatively.” It’s a fitting statement for a DJ known for blending emotional storytelling with expertly layered beats, inviting listeners on an introspective journey with every set.
Isgubhu, which means “beat” in isiZulu, is Apple Music’s flagship platform dedicated to African electronic music. It features an ever-expanding catalogue of Amapiano, Afro Tech, 3 Step, Afro House, and more, including exclusive DJ mixes, editorial playlists, and spotlight features. The launch of the Isgubhu DJ Mix series marks a new chapter in global recognition for the continent’s dance music culture.
