Makhadzi Drops Highly Anticipated Album “Sesi Ka Rose” Featuring Mzekezeke
Award-winning South African singer Makhadzi has officially released her new album Sesi Ka Rose, and it is already dominating conversations across social media. Fans are particularly excited about her unexpected collaboration with the legendary masked Kwaito star Mzekezeke, who has been one of the country’s most mysterious and celebrated figures since the early 2000s.
The collaboration comes in the form of the track Sunshine. Taking fans behind the scenes, Makhadzi revealed that despite recording the song together, she never saw Mzekezeke’s face. She shared on Facebook, “I don’t think I will heal from this … My album is dropping today … I did a song with Mzekezeke and I never got a chance to see his face … Trust me, we will never see this face.”
She added that during the recording process, Mzekezeke’s team ensured his identity remained hidden. “I had to record my verse, and when his turn came, the bouncers came and said that we must go out coz no one allowed to see him.”
Mzekezeke rose to fame in the early 2000s with hit singles like Guqangama Dolo and Izinyoka. His trademark black mask and orange overalls became his signature look, fueling decades of speculation about his identity. While many believe DJ Sbu is the man behind the mask, he has repeatedly denied the claim, keeping the mystery alive.
Beyond Mzekezeke, Sesi Ka Rose boasts a strong lineup of collaborations with Mr Brown, Dr Skaro, Bellafonte & Mizo Phyll, Dawie, and Blissbouy & Blackmyth, further cementing Makhadzi’s reputation for working with diverse and dynamic talents.
Ahead of the release, Makhadzi involved her fans in the creative process by allowing them to help choose the album cover on Instagram. She explained that the title Sesi Ka Rose is inspired by a vibrant, hardworking woman who balances responsibility with a love for life. In her words, “Sesi Ka Rose is a hard-working lady, who can work anywhere as long as she gets money to feed her family. But she makes sure that on weekends she goes out with friends to party. She is the only person who doesn’t sit down at the groove, she dances till sunrise. Sesi Ka Rose, she is a happy soul. She always wants to see people happy.”
The album blends storytelling, collaboration, and signature dance-driven beats, capturing the energy that has made Makhadzi one of South Africa’s most celebrated performers.
