Black Motion Returns With New Single “Monateng”

Acclaimed house music duo Black Motion has made a powerful comeback with their latest single, “Monateng”. The track features percussion from Spice Drums and contributions from longtime collaborator DJ Buckz, blending signature African dance music with fresh rhythmic layers.

The duo described the single as a celebration of unity. “Monateng is about joy, connection and the energy that music brings. It is an invitation to move together as one,” they said.

Sung in SePitori, the Pretoria dialect, the track fuses Afro house grooves with Latin-inspired rhythms. It is anchored by hypnotic drums, layered percussion and chants, all elements that have defined Black Motion’s sound for over a decade. The result is a song that connects listeners to the movement, music and culture at the heart of the duo’s artistry.

The release of “Monateng” comes at a pivotal moment for the group. They are currently nominated for four South African Music Awards (SAMAs). The nominations include Best Collaboration for “Takala”, Best Dance Album for The Cradle of Art, Best Engineered Album for the same project, and Best Produced Album. These nods highlight their lasting impact and influence on South African dance music.

Adding to the excitement, Black Motion will host their flagship event, Friends of Black Motion (FOBM), on September 20 at The Lion & Safari Park in Johannesburg. Originally scheduled for earlier in the month, the event was postponed to align with their recent SAMA nominations.

In a statement, the duo said, “Dear friends of Black Motion, we sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused. Due to our recent SAMA nominations and the opportunities that came with them, we have decided to move FOBM to 20 September. The decision allows us to create a bigger and better experience, one that celebrates this milestone with the energy and excellence you deserve.”

With “Monateng”, Black Motion continues to push boundaries while staying true to their roots. Their ability to merge traditional African rhythms with contemporary house has cemented them as one of the most important acts in South African music. The new single not only promises to dominate dance floors but also reflects the duo’s enduring commitment to cultural expression and musical excellence.
