Johannesburg Artist NIDZ Releases New Single “Reflections”

Johannesburg-based musician NIDZ, real name Nidarshin Naidoo, has dropped his latest single titled “Reflections”. The track examines the emotional complexity of a relationship nearing its end, balancing the inevitability of separation with the lingering weight of unfinished emotions.
“Reflections” blends evocative lyrics with Afrobeat and dance rhythms, creating a sound that invites both reflection and movement. Listeners are encouraged to think about past relationships while losing themselves on the dance floor.
At just 20 years old, NIDZ is balancing life as a university student and a rising musician. Speaking to Independent Media Lifestyle, he shared how music has always been central to his journey.
“Music has been a part of my life from school choirs to releasing my own singles. I was heavily influenced by artists like Black Coffee and Drake. Their work inspired me to create the Afrobeat and Afrotech sound you hear today. The sound brings people joy, that feeling where nothing else matters except themselves and the music,” he said.
NIDZ’s debut single, “Higher Ground”, carried an uplifting tone. It captured the excitement of a new relationship, full of optimism and high-energy beats. The track received strong support, with radio playlisting and continued rotation since its release.
“Higher Ground was inspired by the beginning stages of a relationship, when everything feels right and all you can feel is happiness. The sound is uplifting and high-energy, which contributes to that feeling,” he explained.
By contrast, “Reflections” takes a more introspective approach. While the debut celebrated the start of love, the new single captures its decline. Musically, it leans more into the club and dance scene, moving away from mainstream pop influences.
“‘Reflections’ is almost the complete opposite of ‘Higher Ground’. While ‘Higher Ground’ captures the beginning of love, ‘Reflections’ expresses the end of a relationship,” NIDZ said.
For NIDZ, “Reflections” represents artistic growth. The young musician is no longer hesitant to explore darker and more complex emotions.
“‘Reflections’ shows my development because I am no longer afraid to tackle darker themes in my music. The track explores complex emotions while keeping the signature Afrotech and Afrobeat sound. You can listen to it in the car, on the dance floor or just by yourself, and it still resonates,” he shared.
Looking ahead, NIDZ promises to deliver more music within the Afrobeat and Afrotech space. His upcoming projects will continue to balance rhythm with deep emotional storytelling.
“Fans can expect upcoming releases to continue exploring the Afrobeat and Afrotech sound they know and love while addressing more complex topics of love, relationships and the emotional connections that tie us all together. I hope people can relate to the song and that it expresses thoughts and feelings they have only held in their heads,” he added.
“Reflections” is now available on major streaming platforms. The single positions NIDZ as one of South Africa’s emerging voices in Afrobeat and Afrotech, combining youthful energy with a growing depth of artistry.
