Langa Mavuso Turns Pain Into Power With Upcoming Album “Therapy (The Other Side)”

The past few years have been difficult for award-winning artist Langa Mavuso. In April 2024, he faced one of his most traumatic experiences when his mother was hijacked and taken against her will. He turned to social media to plead for help in finding her. Nine hours later, she was found in Naturena, south of Johannesburg.
At the time, Mavuso expressed his relief and gratitude, writing on X: “Thank you, Lord. We’ve just found her in Naturena with no help of @Tracker_SA after a sleepless night. Thank you for your prayers, raising awareness, assistance and calls. Grateful.”
Alongside this ordeal, he also faced deep personal loss when his partner, celebrity chef Lentswe Bhengu-Mafoko, passed away after a short illness. The couple had been together for seven years. These experiences left a lasting impact on him, shaping both his personal and artistic journey.
Rather than allow grief to consume him, Mavuso has channeled his pain into creativity. His sophomore album, “Therapy (The Other Side),” is set for release on October 3, 2025. Known for weaving his personal experiences into his music, he describes the album as a form of healing and self-reflection.
In announcing the project, Mavuso shared: “Today, I write to you not as an artist chasing moments of perfection on a stage, but as a man open, tender and in search of truth. I’m humbled to share with you something deeply personal. My album, ‘Therapy (The Other Side)’, will be released on October 3rd, 2025. It is more than a project, it is a collection of letters to me. Each track is a page torn from my soul, a confession, a memory, a prayer. I hope you will walk with me as we begin this journey.”
He continued: “This album is my form of therapy, a space where I sat with every version of myself. The lost boy, the seeker, the healer, the believer. I wrote to them. I sang to them. I forgave them.”
The project explores heavy yet relatable themes. Mavuso highlights loss, exploration, healing, and seeking as central to the album’s narrative. “The themes you’ll find throughout the project are heavy, but honest. Loss, of love, of self, of direction. Exploration, of the unknown, of feeling, of identity. Healing, gentle, painful, necessary. And Seeking, a journey back to God, faith and stillness.”
Beyond the music, Mavuso sees his work as a reflection of his generation. “I am ushering in a fresh, youthful era, one where I am not only seen as a musician but as a mirror to my generation’s emotions, fears and hopes. Through social media posts, live performances, fashion and intentional collaborations, I am creating a multifaceted experience that invites more people into the world of ‘Therapy (The Other Side)’. I can’t wait to share this next chapter with you.”
With “Therapy (The Other Side),” Langa Mavuso is not only releasing an album but also inviting listeners into his personal journey of heartbreak, healing, and rediscovery.
