Summer Walker Concert in Tshwane Leaves Fans Disappointed

Fans packed the SunBet Arena in Tshwane on Sunday, October 5, eager to see American R&B singer Summer Walker perform live at the Back to the City concert. Attendees arrived dressed for a memorable night, many having spent thousands of rands, but the evening left many feeling frustrated and disappointed.

The concert was scheduled to start at 4pm but faced significant delays, resulting in the main act not having enough time to complete her full set. While waiting, the opening acts entertained the crowd. Lordkez kicked off the show and brought out rapper Cassper Nyovest to perform their hit “Aweh,” sending the audience into excitement. Jessie Reyez followed with a high-energy set, keeping fans engaged and singing along.

Tensions rose when MC and TV presenter Shamiso Mosaka announced that Summer Walker would be “a bit late,” drawing boos from the audience. When Walker finally took the stage, she performed hits including “Body,” “Girls Need Love,” and “Session 32,” but her set lasted less than an hour, leaving many fans devastated.

Following the concert, Summer Walker, whose full name is Summer Marjani Walker, addressed the situation on Instagram. She apologised to her South African fans and explained that the circumstances were beyond her control. “South Africa, I’m so sorry. I literally don’t understand what happened. I got kicked off the stage, this whole thing was really unprofessional. They changed my time three times and when I got on stage, I was thinking I’m going to do my full set. They were yelling in my ear to cut my whole entire set. I didn’t even get to get down and get in the crowd like I usually do because they were telling me to hurry up,” she said.

Walker stressed that she was on time and prepared to perform her full set. “I was dressed, ready and they kicked your girl off and I couldn’t do anything about that. I don’t want you to think it was on me. They could’ve paid the fine and respected our time, but they didn’t give a damn,” she said.

She emphasised that she was being unfairly blamed for the shortened performance. “This is my favourite place in the world, I like y’all a lot – don’t do me like that. I will come back and hopefully they will let me do my whole show,” Walker added.

The concert highlighted challenges with scheduling and event management, leaving fans disappointed despite the high-energy opening acts and the anticipation for Walker’s performance. Many are now hoping for a return visit where the singer can deliver her full show.
