DJ Merlon Clarifies Why He Is No One-Hit Wonder. In 2014 DJ Merlon released a debut EP Koze Kuse and In 2015, he released his album Original Copy. Even though the album didn’t get a reception as positive as Koze Kuse, it did gain the DJ a chance to travel the world.

Born name Sbusiso Mhlongo said that while songs from the album weren’t played as frequently as his Koze Kuse hit, it brought its perks and he was never down and out which explains why he is saying he is no one-hit wonder. “I don’t want to be a song-of-the-year artist who only releases songs relevant for the holiday season. I want my music to be relevant throughout the year. And I’m no one-hit wonder,” he said Speaking to Drum.

The Koze Kuse hit was one of the big songs causing chaos back in 2014, it made people anticipate more from him little did they knew that, Merlon’s vision is to not drop music relevant for the particular time but music to last for a long time. Mhlongo has now released an album Pure Black with songs that just got him right back in the game and he further spoke of how it offers different sounds as compared to his previous work .

“The songs on this album feature ethnic sounds. I wanted it to be purely African with an international appeal,” he says. He added that he hopes the album will do better than Koze Kuse.
