Tutu Puoane Speaks Of How It Feels To Perform For SA Audience

Jazz songstress Tutu Puoane spoke of her experiences of Performing for South African crowd in an interview with Sowetan Live and said that SA is the most honest audience she has ever performed for. Tutu was born in Atteridgeville and grew up  in Mamelodi, Pretoria. Her amazing voice has landed her gigs from around the world which led to her relocation. The star has collaborated with artists such as Belgian pianist Ewout Pierreux and Tinika Bosma. Puoane has been in the music industry for over 2 decades and has 6 released albums.

The muso is currently based in Belgium and will be having one of her concerts here in SA. She expressed her excitement as she will be part of the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz again. The annual international festival set to take place at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg from the 28th to 30th of September.”When performing for a South African audience, they are going to let you know right away if they like it or not. Most of the time I miss performing for such audiences,” she says. “But I still like the kind of audience who sit down and listen to what I am about to offer. Sitting and listening, or a rowdy crowd, works for me,” she added.

The singer will be performing songs from her latest project which is not yet in stores in SA, a tribute album to Joni Mitchell, a Canadian singer and songwriter. “The tribute happened by default. I was asked to do her tribute for an opening of a theatre in Holland but we had so much fun, so we thought let’s continue and that is how it came to be,” she said.
