Unathi Releases New Album ‘Brave, True and Strong’

After years of giving music a break Unathi Msengana has finally released her 5th album which she claims has always been her dream Brave, True and Strong. Her reason for taking a break was other commitments she had on the side which included being a businesswoman, idols judge and dealing with marital issues and her Calling. The album released recently, it has a total of 10 songs both in English and Xhosa. Her single Nguwe is also featured in the album.

In an interview with Channel 24 , the singer said that  this album reflects all the experiences she has had so far. “It has been 4 years since my last project and I have gone through a lot, this album is incredibly honest and sometimes raw, but is most certainly a bold representation of where my life is today.”

Mengana went on to elaborate on how this album has always been in the list of her dream.”This is the album that I have always dreamt of releasing and I could only do that by working on it with my band from the very beginning, this allowed me to fully incorporate the live element which ties this work of Art together. the beauty of the live album is that is sounds as good on CD as it does when i perform live,” she explained.

She added that this project serves as a liberation to her self as a woman.”This project excited because I get to touch on issues that are a huge part of my life, like being a working mother and the guilt that comes with that, being vulnerable and seeking guidance. Growing as a woman sexually and spiritually, I also respond to the enormous social ills that we experience as black people.”
