Kid X, Ami Faku, Thabsie and Zakwe share what they would tell their younger self

Spotify recently chatted to a few local musicians to find out, if they had the opportunity, what advice they would give to their younger selves. It’s something we often think about – if I could go back in time, what would I tell my younger self about the lessons I’d learnt so far?

Local rappers Kid X and Zakwe emphasised the importance of focusing on the present and learning to let go of the past. Kid X also added that being diligent and learning from your mistakes was key in moving forward.

Soweto–born, electro singer Bon J stressed that believing in yourself and taking more risks would result in the success you want. Having been in the industry for 10 years already, her determination paid off when she was chosen to open for Sam Smith on the South African leg of his The Thrill of It All world tour.

Bon J’s sentiments were echoed by soul singer Ami Faku, formerly known as Amanda Faku, who says “work hard and don’t doubt your dreams, because everything is possible.”

African QueenThabsie, concluded by speaking to something that a large number of people, especially the youth, struggle with – you don’t have to have it figured out all at once, life can be long, take your time with it.
