Losing the ones you love is quite a tough thing for a person. Zakes Bantwini went on social media to speak about those close to him that he had lost because of load shedding. The musician had social media users divided over his statement.

The music producer states that he knows 4 people who passed away due to ventilators not working as a result of load shedding. “I know at least 4 people who passed today, their ventilations stopped working because of load shedding. I wonder how many [people] lost their loved ones today because of load shedding, can we at least deal with one pandemic at a time [please]…,” says Zakes Bantwini. Some social media users thought that the musician might be lying. One social media user says, “You ain’t gotta lie like this bro.” One user says, “All hospitals have generators that kick in if there is loadshedding. So…unless the staff have f***ed it up…it’s doubtful they died from loadshedding.”

Some social media users were on the side of Zakes Bantwini. “The government of [Cyril Ramaphosa] has blood on its hand. There was no accountability [for] the Marikana mass killings & there won’t be any [for] [Eskom] blunders,” says one social media user. One user says, “Zakes is being attacked for talking about people he knows. He never mentioned hospitals and [you forget that] people use ventilators at home…”
