Watch! DJ Sbu defends MacG following claims that he is gatekeeping the podcast industry. Former music DJ and podcaster DJ Sbu has dismissed claims that MacG is the gatekeeper of the podcasting space in SA.
There is a rise of podcasting as more and more people are joining the space in South Africa. From established famous people to creatives starting out, some many people from different industries are now launching podcasts for their relevant industries. South Africa has a number of successful podcasters that have paved their way onto the podcasting world. Former radio personality MacG is leading in numbers with his podcast called Podcast And Chill With MacG.
DJ Sbu did not bite his tongue and responded to the claims that MacG is gatekeeking the podcast sphere. The claims were made by a podcaster called Penuel The God who is the founder of the podcast called Penuel The Black Pen. In his recent podcast episode, he expressed how MacG is gatekeeking the podcasting community. He shared that MacG’s interest is to make sure that no other podcaster succeeds in the podcasting industry. He further added saying that everyone is forced to watch Podcast and Chill hill as all the views from other South African podcasts goes to him.
“MacGyver’s interest with podcast and chill, is to make sure that no other podcast makes it. So that everyone is forced to watch podcast and chill…”, Penuel The God had shared.
It seems like DJ Sbu does not agree with the statement that the podcaster had shared. As a podcaster himself of The Hustlers Corner, he does not think that MacG guards the podcast space. In a video circulating on social media, the DJ shared that he does not support Penuel’s views as everyone can become a podcaster. He shared that everyone can make it big as MacG if they put more effort in their work as MacG did with his podcast. He further added that he does not like the mentality that there are gatekeepers in any industries.
“… If you are consistent enough, you put in hard work enough for the longest time just like MacG did you’re gonna build your platform at some point. I don’t like that mentality of people saying someone is gatekeeking anything as if there’s some big gate or big door. No body is pushing people on the side, that’s only in your own mind… “, said DJ Sbu.
The DJ also added that he also does not think that the amapiano star, DJ Maphorisa is gatekeeking the amapiano genre as MacG had claimed.
