Jann Klose Unveils Captivating Stop-Motion Music Video for “When I’m With You”

Internationally acclaimed singer-songwriter Jann Klose has unveiled the official music video for his latest single, “When I’m With You,” a vibrant synth-rock anthem that celebrates connection, joy, and the beauty of everyday moments.
What makes this video truly unique is its creation through stop-motion animation, using over 2,000 individual photographs captured across various iconic locations in New York City. From Times Square to Lincoln Center and the High Line, Jann’s journey through the Big Apple is brought to life frame by frame, delivering a visual experience that feels both nostalgic and refreshingly original.
Directed by Texas-born filmmaker Sam Casey, the project was shot in just six hours. For every single frame, Jann had to move one step at a time, mimicking the old-school flipbook style, or as he fondly calls it, “Daumenkino,” the German word for flipbook.
“I had this idea of shooting a full-on stop-motion music video in NYC and pitched it to Sam just days after we met,” Jann shared. “He loved it and jumped on board immediately. It was exhausting but exhilarating, and the result is beautiful. Along the way, we engaged with random fans on the street—something that really reflects the soul of the song.”
For director Sam Casey, this was his first venture into stop-motion filmmaking. “This is the first project I’ve done using stop-motion, and it was a blast,” he said. “Jann’s vision for the flipbook opening—his daumenkino—set the tone. Shooting in NYC with moving elements all around us while controlling just one or two subjects gave the video a surreal, dreamlike quality.”
Because stop-motion allows no room for retakes, every shot had to be perfectly timed and executed. The result is a visually dynamic and emotionally rich video that captures both spontaneity and meticulous craftsmanship.
Co-written with renowned musician Everett Bradley, known for his work with Bon Jovi and Seal, “When I’m With You” blends 80s-inspired synth-pop energy with Jann’s signature acoustic warmth. Bradley also co-produced and performed on the track alongside Marcus Dembinski, who previously worked with Jann on the single “Surrender.”
“Now it’s an upbeat celebration with deep undertones of the human connection experience,” said Bradley, highlighting the song’s emotional core. Dembinski added, “We leaned into influences like Billy Joel, A-ha, and The B-52s, pairing them with Jann Klose’s powerhouse vocals and acoustic energy. It’s a bold, bright, and honest sound for him.”
The music video for “When I’m With You” goes beyond traditional visuals, serving as a heartfelt tribute to creativity, connection, and finding joy in small, everyday moments. From spontaneous street interactions to carefully crafted stop-motion sequences, the project is a powerful reminder that life’s best moments often happen one step at a time.
